Curated Chaos: Outsourced Thinking

2026. november 12., csütörtök · 19:00–21:00

Just because a thought is in your head, does that mean it’s yours?

From television to search engines, social feeds, and AI, technology shapes what we encounter—and how we think. But when does it help us understand the world, and when do we start outsourcing our judgment?

Join the Chaos Crew for an evening of curious conversation:

  • Which shapes our minds most: TV, the internet, or AI?
  • What makes us believe something?
  • Where’s the line between useful support and dependence?
  • How can we stay independent thinkers in an increasingly curated world?

Bring your questions, your doubts, and a willingness to change your mind.

Curated Chaos: Outsourced Thinking

How TV, the internet, and AI shape our minds

Hi, dear Chaos Crew!

Just because a thought is in our head, does that necessarily mean it’s ours?

Television curates what we watch. Search engines rank what we find. News feeds and algorithms influence which stories, opinions, and ideas reach us. And now AI can answer our questions, summarize complex topics, build arguments, and write on our behalf.

These tools make information easier to access. But how do they shape what we believe—and what happens when we let them do more of our thinking?

On November 12, we’ll explore Outsourced Thinking: the ways we hand over parts of our mental work to technology, often without noticing.

Smarter tools, independent minds?

The fear that new technology will make us “dumber” is hardly new. Each new medium brings questions about what we might gain—and what we might lose.

Outsourcing some mental tasks can free us to focus on bigger questions. A summary can make an unfamiliar subject accessible. A recommendation can introduce us to an idea we would never have found ourselves. An AI assistant can help us challenge an argument or see another perspective.

But convenience also raises questions. If we rarely look beyond the summary, how much do we really understand? If our feeds keep reflecting our existing beliefs, how often do we encounter a meaningful challenge? And if an answer sounds convincing, do we still check whether it makes sense?

What we’ll explore

  • TV, the internet, or AI: which has the strongest influence on how we think, and why?
  • Belief and trust: what makes us accept something as true—evidence, familiarity, authority, or repetition?
  • Support or dependence: when does technology strengthen our thinking, and when does it replace the effort?
  • The AI question: is asking AI to reason for us different from using a search engine or listening to an expert?
  • Independent thinking: how can we question our sources, notice our blind spots, and remain open to changing our minds?

We’ll explore these questions together, drawing on our own experiences of the technologies we use every day.

Bring your curiosity, your doubts, and an idea you’re willing to reconsider.

See you on November 12, Chaos Crew!
